BiSym Scale

The unique design of LiteGait® allows for both unilateral and bilateral measurement of body weight support. The BiSym™ (bilateral symmetry) Scale measures and displays the amount of weight bearing support provided by LiteGait to patients' right and left sides, both in standing and as support changes throughout the gait cycle. This option allows clinicians to establish and monitor the amount of assistance needed for patients' posture and balance. Hence providing measures of symmetry and unilateral or bilateral improvement.

The ability to specify the amount of support given to one side of the patient's body allows the therapist to provide assistance only where it is needed. The scale also allows monitoring of patient use of the support, and is an excellent biofeedback mechanism for cognitive patients.

The real-time monitoring of support is possible through two load cells bilaterally positioned in the support arms of LiteGait units. The information is fed to an electronic black box that processes and displays the amount of weight, in pounds (or kilograms), supported by the unit's right or left arm, or the total supported weight.

While BiSym is an excellent add-on for all clinical settings for both documentation of progress and application of protocol, it is a must for all teaching and research settings. The electronics can provide two analog outputs — representing the right and left supports — which can be transferred to a chart recorder or digitized for recording by a personal computer.
