Pediatric Physical Therapy Treatments:
History, Evidence, and Outcomes
Andrew Ball, PT, DPT, MBA/PhD
This course has a little something for everyone. It is an excellent introductory course for the clinician wishing to gain exposure to several approaches before pursuing certification in any one area, for the clinician or clinic wishing to gain a better understanding of the evidence-base for (and against) the use of various treatment techniques, or for consensus-building in the clinic with several therapists treating from a wide range of seemingly conflicting treatment philosophies. Dr. Ball’s course is a one-day combined lab and lecture guided-tour through several traditional and non-traditional physical therapy treatment techniques (including therapeutic handing, sensory processing, several pediatric manual therapy techniques, and Body-Weight Supported Gait Training) while concurrently reviewing relevant studies and gaining an awareness of the literature supporting or challenging use of each treatment technique. Dr. Ball contends that this foundation is an essential part of understanding the value of the LiteGait system as a treatment environment (as opposed to a treatment alternative) that when combined with the treatment philosophy of the evidence-based therapist’s choice, further enhances therapeutic outcomes
