Editorial
Welcome to our inaugural issue of our E-newsletter! We wish to provide an avenue for discussion of the latest research studies pertaining to physical medicine and rehabilitation.

While we all want to stay current in our profession, the daily schedule of patients, paperwork and family time leaves little or no time for such luxuries as reading lengthy research articles. Mobility Research has designed this newsletter in hopes that we can keep you, the clinician, up to date on the latest published information on gait and balance related issues for both children and adults. In addition to the research article summary, you will find commentaries, continuing education course schedule, and the latest in product information. Please feel free to share your ideas for any of the sections.

Effects of Traditional Treatment and Partial Body Weight Treadmill Training on the Motor Skills of Children With Spastic Cerebral Palsy: A Pilot Study

Denise M. Begnoche, PT, and Ken H. Pitetti, PhD, FACSM

This study was designed to examine the effects of partial body weight treadmill training (PBWTT) combined with intensive traditional physical therapy treatment on motor and ambulatory skills in children with cerebral palsy. Five children between the ages of 2 and 10 participated in a four week therapy program consisting of three to four two-hour sessions per week. Outcomes were measured and analyzed using standardized testing procedures such as pedographs and the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM). Results included positive measurable outcomes of the paired methods, indicated by improved motor and ambulatory skills in individual children. Thus, intensive episodes of physical therapy of reasonable frequency and duration performed in combination with PBWTT may be effective in improving motor skills of children with spastic CP. Users' Corner

Jeffrey

Dear LiteGait,

Hello. I am writing to tell you how spectacularly your product has helped my son Jeffrey. Jeffrey has been rehabilatating from a severe hemmoraghe in the Pons of his brainstem. We heard of your product about two years ago. I had talked with another mom who raved about it and said it was way better than any walker she had used. I did some research and realized she was absolutely correct. It took me just about a year to get the State of Arizona to agree and fund it for my son. We have been working daily on it since we got it. Jeffrey has had two orthopedic surgeries and was able to recover very quickly due to the LiteGait. I have seen tremendous progress in balance and core strength and correct gait pattern all due to your LiteGait. I only wish I had this from day one. I tell other moms and therapists the great results we have had and encourage them to check it out. Thank you for making an amazing product that is user friendly and 100% effective!

Sincerely,
Herma Bristol

Products

Mobility Research is pleased to announce our new LiteGait devices with new options and products, all designed with the clinician and patient in mind:

FlexAble Yoke - for challenging patients as they improve

  • allows the therapist to adjust the yoke (top) from its normal rigid (fixed) state to move up and down with the normal vertical movement of the patient during higher walking speeds
  • simple to use with the turn of a knob
The Platform System - for ease of treatment
  • raises the walking surface of the treadmill so therapists can adopt a more ergonomically correct position while treating patients in the LiteGait
  • works great with specially made LiteGait I-400E – its 40 inches of lift stroke are more than enough to take a patient from sit to stand and up over the platformed treadmill
  • system can be used with even your tallest patients
