Kathleen Grady Smith, PT

Kathleen Grady Smith, PT, received her Physical Therapy Degree from Northeastern University, Boston, in 1991. She obtained her Neurological Certified Specialist in June 2006, is certified in LSVT BIG techniques for the treatment of Parkinson's Disease, and is a certified clinician for the Bioness L 300
Neuro-orthosis. She has worked in various settings of acute and subacute rehab, skilled nursing facilities, aquatic therapy, and in the home and community environment.
Kathleen has participated in advanced clinical studies with the focus of treatment and management of neurological disorders, including stroke and traumatic brain injury. She has been the lead PT on Scottsdale Healthcare’s Acute Inpatient Rehab unit and is currently working in an outpatient clinic treating the neurologically impaired exclusively. She has had a strong mentoring role as well as been a clinical supervisor for PT interns. Her treatment emphasis is on the most effective treatment using current motor learning principles, evidence based practice, body weight support gait and balance training, graded manual neuromuscular facilitation, and neuromuscular re-education utilizing electrical stimulation.
Kathleen enjoys working with the patients and their families to customize therapy sessions to meet the patients’ goals for higher independent function. She believes in the efficacy of intensive Physical Therapy for greater functional recovery. She utilizes a team approach to maximize functional outcomes and improve the patients’ overall quality of life following stroke, traumatic brain injury, or other neurological incident.
