Course Instructor
Partners in Retraining Movement
The literature supports to varying degrees, and not without controversy, multiple approaches to rehabilitating persons with neurologic pathologies. The purpose of this educational session is to highlight a common framework to rehabilitating movement of those with neurologic pathologies. More specifically, this session will highlight similarities in the basic tenets of two neuro-therapeutic approaches – neuro-developmental treatment (NDT) and body-weight support (BWS) therapies. The presenter will discuss how therapists can use these approaches in a complementary manner to retrain movement, focusing upon gait.
Course Objectives:
At the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to :
- list three basic tenets of NDT
- list three basic tenets of BWS therapy
- describe the functioning of the central pattern generator (CPG)
- identify key sensory inputs necessary to facilitate efficient motor outputs in gait
- detail how NDT and BWS can be used together to facilitate CPG contributions to gait
